Big Start for Second NRHA European Derby

Bertolani Riding Gunna Be Majestic and Sapergia Riding Nu Chexomatic Tie for High Score in Go-Round

From Simona Diale - The qualifying go-round of the €69,000-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Open Derby took place today at the Palasturla Equestrian Center in Manerbio, Italy. Vying for a spot in the finals, which will be held on Saturday, September 15 at 3.30pm, 125 horse-rider combinations made their way into the show pen to run NRHA pattern number 7.

Scoring big today were Franco Bertolani and Cody Sapergia who tied for the lead in the €37,500-added level 4 open division. Bertolani, the Brazilian rider based in Italy, rode Gunna Be Majestic (Gunner x Shes A Majestic Whiz by Topsail Whiz) owned by Quarter Dream (Monopoli, Italy) to a score of 222.5.  Sapergia, the Canadian rider based in Switzerland, equalled the score with Nu Chexomatic (Nu Chex To Cash x Tejons Texie Lena by Tejons Peppy Doc) owned by Jac Point Quarter Horses (Lernoos, Austria), between the reins.

Leading the €21,000-added level 3 open go-round was German Nina Lill.  Aboard Gunners Jem (Gunner x Scoots Remedy by Docs Remedy), Nina scored a 221 for owner Kristina Maibaum (Gross-Rohrheim, Germany).

Pierluigi Fabbri of Italy posted the highest score in the €7,500-added level 2 open division aboard Eleonora Felicita Malerba’s Rooster Nic (Gallo Del Cielo x Sanjos Pistolette by San Jo Lena).

The high score in the €3,000-added level 1 open division was a 218.  Leading the go-round was Italian Francesco Martinotti riding Rambo Bo Sun (Bars Jacson Bo x Be Aech Sabra by Be Aech Enterprise), owned by Giulia Degiovanni (Busca, Italy).

The level 1,2,3 and 4 open Consolation will be run on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. in a clean-slate format.

The qualifying go-round of the €28,500-added European Non Pro Derby will start tomorrow morning at 8 am.

Simona Diale - Il go di qualificazione del €69,000-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Open Derby ha avuto luogo oggi presso il Palasturla di Manerbio (BS).  Ben 125 binomi  hanno eseguito il pattern n. 7 NRHA lottando per ottenere un posto nella prestigiosa finale che si svolgerà sabato 15 settembre p.v. alle ore 15.30.

Ad occupare il primo posto ex-aequo nella classifica finale della divisione livello 4 dell’ €37,500-added open sono stati Franco Bertolani e Cody Sapergia.  Bertolani, cavaliere braziliano di stanza in Italia, in sella a Gunna Be Majestic (Gunner x Shes A Majestic Whiz x Topsail Whiz), di proprietà de Quarter Dream, ha ottenuto uno score di 222.5, lo stesso punteggio ottenuto da  Sapergia.  Il cavaliere canadese di stanza in Svizzera si è infatti portato in testa alla classifica finale in sella a Nu Chexomatic (Nu Chex To Cash x Tejons Texie Lena x Tejons Peppy Doc) di proprietà del Jac Point Quarter Horses (Lernoos, Austria).

E’ stata l’amazzone tedesca Nina Lill ad ottenere il miglior punteggio nel primo go del €21,000-added livello 3 open.  In sella a Gunners Jem (Gunner x Scoots Remedy x Docs Remedy), di proprietà di Kristina Maibaum, Nina ha ottenuto un punteggio di 221.

Il cavaliere azzurro Pierluigi Fabbri, con un punteggio di 220, guida la classifica finale del €7,500-added livello 2 open in sella a  Rooster Nic (Gallo Del Cielo x Sanjos Pistolette x San Jo Lena), di proprietà di Eleonora Felicita Malerba.

High score nel €3,000-added livello 1 open, un 218, è stato ottenuto dal cavaliere italiano Francesco Martinotti in sella a Rambo Bo Sun (Bars Jacson Bo x Be Aech Sabra x Be Aech Enterprise), di proprietà di Giulia Degiovanni.

La Consolation Open per i livelli 1,2,3 e 4 si disputerà mercoledì p.v. alle ore 8 mentre il go di qualificazione del €28,500-added European Non Pro Derby inizierà domani mattina alle ore 8.

Il NRHA European Derby è aperto a cavalli di 4, 5, 6 e 7 anni e si svolge in un go di qualificazione più finale.   Oltre alle categorie di campionato NRHA, durante lo show avrà luogo anche il NRHA European Pre Futurity (livello 4 e livello 2), aperto a cavalli di 3 anni.

2012 NRHA European Derby Preview

From Simona Diale / Italian Reining Horse Association – Manerbio, Italy – September 5, 2012 – The second edition of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby Show will take place at the Palasturla in Manerbio, Italy, on September 10-15.  The Derby is open to 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-year-old horses and includes a go-round and clean, slate finals.
The €69,000-added Open Derby qualifying go-round, with 119 horses currently entered, will open the competition on Monday, September 10.  The €28,500-added Non Pro Derby go-round, which counts 101 entries, will be held on Tuesday.

On top of a full-slate of NRHA-approved ancillary classes, an NRHA European Pre Futurity also is offered for 3-year-old horses. The Pre Futurity includes level 4 and level 2 open and non pro divisions.

2011 Champions

Lendi and Piccolo Spanish Win NRHA European Open Derby

The $92,000 added NRHA European Derby made a significant entry into the history books tonight in Manerbio, Italy. Forty-eight finalists battled for the honor to be the first-ever NRHA European Open Derby Champion. In the end, an Italian rider clenched the Level 4 Open Championship ahead of riders from nine countries and three continents.

Italy’s Gennaro Lendi and Piccolo Spanish (Spanish Snapper x Jokin Peppy by Hangten Peppy) claimed the title with a spectacular score of 224.5. Together, Lendi and Piccolo Spanish, owned by Giancarmine Sabatino, have won the Level 4 Open Championship at the German Breeders’ Futurity and the Level 4 Open Reserve Championship Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA) Futurity. In addition, they were finalists at this year’s IRHA Derby. Lendi has nearly $280,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings and was one of three riders to qualify three horses for tonight’s NRHA European Open Derby finals.

“I’m very happy about being the first Open Champion here at the (NRHA European) Derby. I want to thank his owner Giancarmine Sabatino for giving me the chance to ride this horse. This is a super horse, and he gave me everything he had tonight,” said Lendi. “He (Piccolo Spanish) is very good in his turns and circles, so I tried not to make any mistakes there. I wanted to save something for the stops. He gave me everything.”

With a score of 223, Volker Schmitt (GER) and Hollywood Gun Dunnit (Gunner x Isle Bea Dun It by Hollywood Dun It) took home reserve honors in the Level 4 Open division. In addition, they tied for the championship in the Level 3 Open division with Sylvia Rzepka (GER) and Dreams And Prizes (Magnum Chic Dream x Freckles Prizes by Colonel Freckles).

As a four-year-old, Hollywood Gun Dunnit won the reserve championship in the Level 4 Open division at Gordyville in 2008 with Shawn Flarida. The seven-year-old stallion is owned by Equus Quarter Horses. Schmitt, an NRHA Judge with nearly $150,000 NRHA lifetime earnings, has qualified three horses for the Level 4 and Level 3 Open finals at the NRHA European Futurity since the show’s inception.

Rzepka and the five-year-old stallion, owned by Ulrike Frey, were the Level 4 Open Champions at this year’s Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA) Derby. The stallion also was a Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 Open finalist at the 2010 NRHA European Futurity with Vern Sapergia. Rzepka has won more than $112,00 in NRHA competition.

Guiseppe Prevosti (ITA) and Buenonics Doughter (Buenonic Chex x Doll House Glo by Mr War Glo) marked the highest score of the evening in the Level 2 Open division, a 221. The five-year-old mare was a finalist in all Open divisions at the 2010 NRHA European Futurity with Matthew Hudson aboard. She is owned by Enzo Gola. Prevosti won the Level 3 and Level 2 Open at this year’s NRHA European Futurity. He has nearly $120,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings.

Taking home second place in the Level 2 Open and Level 1 Open divisions was Alexander Ripper (GER) and Wild At The Bar (Star At The Bar x Wild About Hollywood by Hollywood Dun It) with a 218. The 2004 stallion is owned by Wolfgang Mueller. Ripper has been quite successful this year winning more than $7,000 in the Level 4 Open at this year’s German Breeders’ Derby.

Stefano Ferri, another Italian rider, and Made In Italy (Ricochet Rooster x Ms Sanditch Whix by Topsail Whiz) made the Level 1 Open division championship theirs during the first section of the finals. Ferri and the five-year-old gelding marked a 220.5 to take home the title for owner Manuel Bonzano. The team also won the Level 2 Open division at the 2009 IRHA Futurity. Ferri has won the Level 2 Open division at the IRHA Maturity and was the first champion in the Level 1 Open at the NRHA European Futurity.

ANCILLARY ACTION

Open
A 219 won the $2,000 added Non Pro class for Claudio Risso (ITA) and Spat A Blue (Spat Olena x ARC Joy Surprise by Surprise Enterprise). Risso, the first NRHA European Level 4 Non Pro Futurity Champion, has more than $240,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings. Risso’s nine-year-old stallion has more than $27,000 on his NRHA record including a bronze medalist honors with Nicola Brunelli at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

“This horse is amazing. He is solid and very consistent in the show pen. I started riding him in March, and now I’m feeling really good. I’ve shown him about 11 times and it’s great. I’m planning to show him more and hope it continues to go well,” said Risso.

Second place went to Carlotta Prevedoni (ITA) and Antarchex (ARC Antares Surprise x Barrickita Chex by Ricky Chex) with a 212. Prevedoni owns the ten-year-old gelding and has earned more than $2,500 on him this year.

Rookie Level 2
Maria Rachele Casini (ITA) riding Dualin Surprise (Dualin For Me x Flashy Sparkle Doll by ARC Sparkle Surprise) and Fritz Stoll (AUT) on ARC Lime N Chocolate (Chic Please x Im In The Limelight by Shining Spark) tied with a 205 in the Rookie Level 2 class.

In the run-off, Casini and her five-year-old stallion scored a 202.5 to win the class. Dualin Surprise won the Level 3 and Level 2 Non Pro divisions at the IRHA Futurity with Giovanni Masi De Vargas. Stoll owns the five-year-old gelding who was a finalist in the IRHA Open Futurity with Pierluigi Chioldo.

Youth 14-18
Luke Philliore (GBR) and Tinsel Rey (Tinsel Nic x Sail A Rey by Mr Solano Rey) won the Youth 14-18 class with a 212. Roma Phillimore owns the six-year-old mare who was second place in the Open Category 1 with Rudi Kronsteiner at the 2008 Americana.

A 209 took second place for Irene Shivji (ITA) and RS Ramses Olena (Spat O Lena x Docs Jabalena by Docs Face Card). The Shivji’s seven-year-old gelding has nearly $81,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings.

Youth 13 & Under
Maria Gina (GER) slid Spookin In The Reyn (Smart Spook x Reyn Chex by Mr Solano Rey) the top score in the Youth 13 & Under. The youth rider has more than $7,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings garnered at major shows like the NRHA European Derby Show and IRHA Maturity. This is the four-year-old gelding’s first NRHA win.

Italy’s Matteo Capello and RS Craggan More (Mc Jac Flash x Harlan Glo by Duncans Candy Man) placed second in the class. Alberto Capello owns the six-year-old gelding who has won more than $92,000 in the NRHA show arena.

Reminder Sweeps the NRHA European Non Pro Derby

Reiners in Manerbio, Italy on September 16, 2011, witnessed a historic event as the NRHA European Derby hosted the inaugural Non Pro Derby finals. The finals offered $38,000 in added money to riders from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain and Italy. In addition to the crowning the first-ever NRHA European Derby Champion, the show recognized winners in the Open, Limited Open and Limited Non Pro ancillary classes.

Dominik Reminder (GER) and GR JFB Boy (Solanoswarlee Boy x JFB Glo by Jacs Fancy Benito) earned the high score in the second section of the Non Pro go-round to advance to the finals in the Level 4, Level 3, Level 2 and Level 1 Non Pro divisions. They followed up with another spectacular showing to mark a 220.5. They won in all four levels in the finals, as well. Reminder and the seven-year-old stallion have earned more than $11,000 at major events like the 2008 French Futurity, 2010 Italian Derby and 2011 NRHA European Futurity Show.

Reminder was thrilled with their performance, “I’m very happy this evening. GR JFB Boy is a super horse. During the go, he was always waiting on me, and the final go was perfect. We had very good circles and stops. He’s really the same horse when I’m showing and when he’s outside of the arena.”

Taking the reserve championship in all four Non Pro levels was Katja Jungfer (GER) and Im A Classy Whiz (West Coast Whiz x JD Class Act by Jodies Doc Tari) with a 219. Jungfer and her six-year-old mare won the Level 2 and Level 1 Non Pro championship at this year’s Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA) Derby. Im A Classy Whiz was a Level 3 Open division finalist at the 2008 NRHA Futurity with Rudi Kronsteiner.

“I love my mare so much. Tonight was great. This has been a very good year for me. I was the Level 1 and Level 2 Non Pro Derby Champion earlier this year in Italy on her. We also were finalists in the 2009 (IRHA) Maturity, also in Italy.” Jungfer continued, “I ride my horse at home usually, but for the show I went to Rudi (Kronsteiner) to get ready.”

ANCILLARY ACTION
A score of 222 won the $2,500 added Open class. Italy’s Massimiliano Ruggeri rode Le Colombare Quarter Horses’ Spat Split and White (Spat Olena x ARC Joy Surprise by Surprise Enterprise) to the win. The five-year-old-stallion won the Level 3 Open division at the IRHA Futurity and was a finalist at the IRHA Derby with Ruggeri in the saddle. Ruggeri has nearly $60,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings.

“I’m very happy today. The first go of the Open Derby didn’t go well because of some mistakes I made, so we didn’t make the finals. The horse was really good today. I’m really lucky to ride him. Has has a big heart and mind. I’m very curious to see his first foals,” commented Ruggeri.

Rudi Kronsteiner (AUT) and Gunslider (Gunner x Slidin Miss Daisy by Steady Tradition) received a 218.5 for second place. Nixdorf Heike’s ten-year-old stallion has accumulated more than $50,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings. Kronsteiner, a leading NRHA Professional, has won more than $900,000 in NRHA competition.

In the Limited Open class, Alberto Villani (ITA) and Free Dun It Rooster (Ricochet Rooster x Freedom Dun It CG by Planet Hollywood) bested the class with a score of 212. Free Dun It Rooster (Az Ag Ca Antinori Azienda, owner) is a two-time Level 3 Open finalist at the IRHA Derby. Villani, an NRHA Judge, has been a finalist at the IRHA Derby and Maturity.

Second place honors went to Bernardo Sarao (ITA) and Smoking Ricochet 023 (Ricochet Rooster x Mrs Rooster by Docs Solano) with a 211.5. Both Sarao and Elisa Della Fiore’s Smoking Ricochet 023 have been finalists at the IRHA Futurity and Breeders Futurity.

Andrea Stillo (ITA) and Spin N Wimp (Wimpys Little Step x Spinning Beauty by Shining Spark) won the Intermediate Non Pro class with a 212.5. Stillo’s four-year-old gelding has been a Level 4 Open finalist at the NRHA Euopean Futurity, IRHA Futurity and NRHA Germany Breeder’s Snaffle Bit Futurity with Copdy Sapergia. Stillo hails from Rome, Italy and has been a member of NRHA since 2009.

Marco Grego (ITA) and AR Spanish Carlitos (Spanish Snapper x Dam Sputnik by Smart As A Jay Bird) scored a 212 for second place. The duo won the Level 2 Non Pro division at the 2008 IRHA Closed Futurity and the Level 2 Non Pro Reserve Championship at the IRHA Futurity. Igino Grego owns the six-year-old gelding.

TOMORROW’S LINE UP
The final day of the inaugural NRHA European Derby begins with the four ancillary classes: Youth 13 & Under, Youth 14-18, Rookie and the $2,000 added Non Pro. The $92,000 added Open Derby finals will start soon after the ancillary classes are complete as approximately 2 p.m.

The finals begin with the first section for Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Open division riders. The second section includes Level 4 Open division riders. There were more than 120 entries in the Open Derby with the world’s best riders on outstanding four-, five-, six- and seven-year-olds reining horses. Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and the United States will be represented in the finals.

Reminder e lo stallone di 7 anni hanno vinto oltre $11,000 in competizioni approvate NRHA, tra questi il 2008 French Futurity, il 2010 IRHA Derby e il 2011 NRHA European Futurity.

Reminder a caldo ha commentato, “Sono contentissimo di come si è comportato il mio cavallo questa sera.  Mi ha sempre aspettato ed è stato perfetto.  I nostri cerchi e stop sono stati fantastici.  Lui è incredibile, dentro e fuori il campo gara.”

Si sono laureati Non Pro Reserve Champions in tutti i livelli Katja Jungfer (GER) e Im A Classy Whiz (West Coast Whiz x JD Class Act x Jodies Doc Tari) con un punteggio di 219.Jungfer e la sua cavalla di sei anni si erano laureati Level 2 e Level 1 Non Pro champions nell’edizione scorsa dell’IRHA Derby. Tra le redini di Kronsteiner, Im A Classy Whiz si era aggiudicato la finale Level 3 Open nell’edizione 2008 del NRHA Futurity.

“Adoro questa cavalla.. Questo è stato un buon anno per me in quanto abbiamo vinto i titoli Level 1 e Level 2 IRHA Non Pro Derby Champion quest’anno e nel 2009 ci siamo aggiudicati l’IRHA Non Pro Maturity,” ha commentato la Jungfer.  “Di solito a casa la monto io ma in gara mi segue Rudi (Kronsteiner).”

ANCILLARY ACTION

A vincere la categoria $2,500 added Open è stato Massimiliano Ruggeri in sella a Spat Split and White (Spat Olena x ARC Joy Surprise x Surprise Enterprise) di proprietà de Le Colombare Quarter Horses.  Lo stallone di cinque anni ha al suo attivo, sempre tra le redini di Ruggeri, il titolo di IRHA Level 3 Open Futurity Champion.

“Sono contento di aver vinto con questo cavallo perchè durante il primo go del Derby Open ho commesso un errore e non siamo riusciti ad entrare in finale.  Sono molto fortunato ad avere l’opportunità di montare un soggetto come questo perchè ha un grande cuore e una testa incredibile.  Ora sono curioso di vedere i suoi primi puledri,” ha commentato il cavaliere che ha vinto quasi $60,000 in gare approvate NRHA.

Rudi Kronsteiner (AUT) e  Gunslider (Gunner x Slidin Miss Daisy x Steady Tradition) si sono aggiudicati la piazza d’onore con un punteggio di 218.5.  Lo stallone di dieci anni di proprietà di Heike Nixdorf  ha vinto oltre $50,000 in gare NRHA.  Kronsteiner, cavaliere professionista NRHA, ha vinto oltre $900,000 in gare NRHA.

Nella categoria Limited Open, Alberto Villani (ITA) in sella a Free Dun It Rooster (Ricochet Rooster x Freedom Dun It CG x Planet Hollywood) si sono portati in testa alla classifica finale con uno score di 212. Free Dun It Rooster (di proprietà dell’Azienda Agricola Cà Antinori Azienda) in due edizioni passate del Derby IRHA si sono qualificati per la finale Level 3 Open.

Il second posto della classifica, con un punteggio di 211.5, è stato occupato da Bernardo Sarao (ITA) e Smoking Ricochet 023 (Ricochet Rooster x Mrs Rooster x Docs Solano) with a 211.5. Tra le redini di Sarao, questo soggetto di proprietà di Elisa Della Fiore ha al suo attivo la finale dell’ IRHA Futurity e del Breeders Futurity.

LA GIORNATA DI DOMANI

L’ultima giornata del NRHA European Derby partirà con quattro categorie di campionato: Youth 13 & Under, Youth 14-18, Rookie e la $2,000 added Non Pro. Le finali del $92,000 added Open Derby avranno inizio alle ore 14 circa.

I primi finalisti saranno quelli partecipanti alle divisioni Level 1, Level 2 e Level 3 Open. La seconda sezione includerà i cavalieri iscritti alla divisione Level 4 Open.  Il Derby Open è aperto a cavalli di quattro-cinque-sei e sette anni e il go di qualificazione ha visto schierarsi in campo 122 binomi.  In finale vedremo i cavalli qualificati tra le redini di cavalieri professionisti provenienti dall’Austria, dal Belgium, dal Brazile, dal Canada, dalla Germania, dalla Gran Bretagna, dall’Italia, dalla Polonia dagli Stati Uniti.
