From Simona Diale -  The second edition of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby was held at the Palasturla Equestrian Center in Manerbio, Italy, and attracted over 350 horses. The €69,000-added Open Derby, open to 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-year-old horses, consisted of a qualifying go-round and clean-slate finals, totaled 125 entries.

58 horse-rider combinations made their way to the level 4, 3, 2 and 1 division finals.  Winning the €37,500-added level 4 open division was Belgian rider, based in Italy, Ann Fonck-Poels. Aboard Spook A Little (Smart Spook x Jessie Wright On x Lenas Wright On), owned by NRHA Million Dollar Rider Rosanne Sternberg and the second horse Ann qualified, the pair were next to last to compete in the finals. After performing a run worth 299, Ann picked up her first European Derby Open title! Owner and breeder Rosanne Sternberg was thrilled with the win. “This has been such a great little horse, and tonight, it’s all about girl power,” said the British breeder based in the U.S.

“This is the very first time I showed this stallion. It’s still so difficult for me to realize that I actually won the NRHA European Open Derby,” said Ann.  “I knew I had to run hard and he was there for me all the way.  Tonight was very special because my husband Bernard, who helped me greatly, unofficiallly surpassed the NRHA Million Dollar Mark.” Spook A Little previously earned third place honors with Bernard at the 2010 NRHA Germany Breeder’s Futurity, 2011 Italian Reining Horse Association Derby and 2012 Roleski 4 Spins Derby.

Two points behind the champion was Cristian Dalla Pozza riding Alessandro De Rossi’s Holly Jolly Sailor (Frozen Sailor x Smart Dolly Hickory x Smart Little Sultan).

Claiming the €21,000-added Level 3 Open Derby Chamionship was yet another Belgian lady. Multiple NRHA Non Pro World Champion Cira Baeck scored a 224 aboard ND Spook N Whiz  (Topsail Whz x Hustle Up A Star x Grays Starlight) owned by Gisela Haas. “This mare has always been good with me. We won the Belgian Futurity and also were reserve champions at the German Derby. Tonight her fast circles and deep spins were special, and just as special was the fact that I made the finals with two horses here.”

With a score of 222, German rider Nina Lill and Gunners Jem (Gunner x Scoots Remedy x Docs Remedy), owned by Kristina Maibaum, earned reserve honors in the level 3 open division.

It  took a run-off to determine who would take home both the €7,500-added level 2 open divison and the €3,000-added level 1 open division championships.  Francesco Martinotti riding Rambo Bo Sun (Bars Jacson Bo x Be Aech Sabra x Be Aech Enterprise) for owner Giulia Degiovanni and Alois Kompatscher riding Jacs Bionda O Rima (Jac O Rima x Talk About Jackie x Talk About Smart) owned by Karin Stoll both scored a 220.5 in the finals.

Marinotti and the 5-year-old stallion came back to win both titles after posting a 224.  “We had a penalty after the first lead change during the run-off, so I really didn’t think I could make it. This horse is simply a phenomenon and made up for that mistake big time.  It’ll be tough to find another like him,” said the Italian rider.

Kompatscher and the 7-year old mare had to settle for reserve honors in both divisions. “This mare has a big heart and I am really happy with the way she went tonight.  We didn’t end up winning, but it’s been a great evening anyway.”

Facts:

The second NRHA European Derby offered over $125,000 in added money in the Derby, close to $5,000 added money in Pre Futurity and $8,500 in added money for the NRHA-approved ancillary classes. The Show attracted over 350 horses between the reins of riders representing 15 countries.  The Open and Non Pro Derby counted 227 entries.

Simona Diale – La seconda edizione del National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby ha avuto luogo dal 10 al 15 settembre scorso presso il Palasturla di Manerbio e ha attirato oltre 350 cavalli. Il Derby Open, con 125 iscritti, ha offerto un montepremi aggiunto di €69.000 ed era aperto a cavalli di 4-, 5-, 6- e 7 anni.

58 binomi si sono guadagnati la finale nei livelli 4, 3, 2 e 1 e a vincere la divisione livello 4, con un montepremi aggiunto di €37.500, è stata l’amazzone belga di stanza in Italia,  Ann Fonck-Poels.  In sella alla sua seconda monta qualificata, Spook A Little (Smart Spook x Jessie Wright On x Lenas Wright On), di proprietà del NRHA Million Dollar Owner Rosanne Sternberg, Ann era il penultimo cavaliere ad entrare in campo gara.  Grazie ad un percorso emozionante premiato dai giudici con un punteggio di 299, la Poels-Fonck ha conquistato il suo primo titolo di European Derby Open Champion!  “Questo cavallino ancora una volta ci ha regalato grandi emozioni e questa sera si può tranquillamente asserire che sono state le donne ad avere in mano la gara!,” ha commentato la proprietaria e allevatrice inglese, di stanza negli States,  Rosanne Sternberg, .

“Questa è la prima volta che porto in gara questo stallone e mi sembra ancora tutto un sogno,” ha aggiunto  Ann.  “Quando sono entrata sapevo che dovevo dare il massimo ma non sapevo come avrebbe reagito con me… è stato speciale dall’inizio alla fine.  Inoltre, questa gara ha un sapore doppiamente dolce perché mio marito, Bernard, ha finalmente raggiunto il titolo di NRHA Million Dollar Rider.”   Proprio tra le redini di Bernard Fonck, anch’egli con due cavalli in finale, Spook A Little si era guadagnato il terzo posto nel 2010 NRHA Germany Breeder’s Futurity, 2011 Italian Reining Horse Association Derby e 2012 Roleski 4 Spins Derby.

A due punti di distanza dalla campionessa, troviamo ad occupare la piazza d’onore Cristian Dalla Pozza in sella allo stallone di cinque anni di proprietà di Alessandro De Rossi, Holly Jolly Sailor (Frozen Sailor x Smart Dolly Hickory x Smart Little Sultan).

Anche il titolo di  Derby Open Level 3 Champion, con un montepremi aggiunto di €21.000,  è andato al Belgio.  La due volte Campionessa del Mondo NRHA Non Pro, Cira Baeck, ha vinto con un punteggio di 224 in sella  ND Spook N Whiz  (Topsail Whz x Hustle Up A Star x Grays Starlight) di proprietà di Gisela Haas. “Questa cavalla è sempre stata splendida con me. Insieme abbiamo vinto il Futurity Belga e il titolo di reserve champions  Derby tedesco. Questa sera i suoi cerchi veloci e stop profondi sono stati speciali.  Vincere questo titolo è davvero prestigioso e sono felice di essere riuscita a qualificare due cavalli in questa finale.”

Con un punteggio di 222, l’amazzone tedesca Nina Lill in sella a Gunners Jem (Gunner x Scoots Remedy x Docs Remedy), di proprietà di Kristina Maibaum, ha occupato la piazza d’onore nella divisione livello 3.

Ci è voluto uno spareggio per determinare chi si sarebbe aggiudicato i titoli di €7,500-added level 2 open champion e €3,000-added level 1 open championship.  Francesco Martinotti con Rambo Bo Sun (Bars Jacson Bo x Be Aech Sabra x Be Aech Enterprise), proprietaria Giulia Degiovanni, e Alois Kompatscher con Jacs Bionda O Rima (Jac O Rima x Talk About Jackie x Talk About Smart), proprietaria Karin Stoll, avevano entrambi ottenuto un punteggio di  220.5 in finale.

E’ stato Marinotti in sella allo stallone di 5 anni ad imporsi nella gara di spareggio con un punteggio di 224.  “Ho fatto un piccolo errore durante il run-off, e a quel punto non sapevo se ce l’avrei fatta ma questo cavallo è un fenomeno e si è rifatto.  Sarà molto difficile trovarne un’altro come lui,” ha commentato il cavaliere azzurro.

Kompatscher e la sua monta di 7 anni si sono dovuti accontentare del secondo posto in entrambe le divisioni. “Questa cavalla ha un cuore grande come una casa e sono contentissimo di come si è comportata. Non abbiamo vinto, ma è stata comunque una serata  bellissima.”

La seconda edizione del NRHA European Derby ha offerto un montepremi totale di oltre $125,000 nei 4 livelli del Derby, oltre $5,000 nel Pre Futurity e $8,500 nelle categorie di campionato NRHA. NRHA European Derby Champions – Cortesi and PC Sliderina For Me

By Simona Diale – The €28,500-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Non Pro Derbyfinals took place at the Palasturla Equestrian Center in Manerbio, Italy today. Winning the €15,000-added level 4 non pro division with a score of 222 was the go-round winner Manuel Cortesi aboard his PC Sliderina For Me (Dualin For Mex X The Slide Surprise by ARC Sparkle Surprise). “My mare was great both in the go-round and in the finals this evening. She has a heart of gold,” said Manuel about the horse bred by the Cortesi family.

Reserve honors in the level 4 non pro division, with a score of 220.5, went to Manuel Bonzano of Italy riding the 6-year-old stallion Custom Slidetracks (Custom Crome x Dry Doc Bobbie by Dry Doc Bob) owned by 23 Quarter Horses Az. Agr.


The €9,000-added level 3 non pro championship, with a score of 216, went to Edoardo Bernardelli riding his own Missin The Whiz (Conquistador Whiz x Missin The Reys by Dual Rey). “I was really emotional about showing my mare tonight, but now that it’s over. I’m really happy because she did so well for me.” It was a pretty special day for the young Italian rider as he also claimed reserve honors in both the level 2 and level 1 non pro divisions!

Second place honors in the level 3 went to Rebecca Jensen of Denmark. Riding her 7-year-old gelding Whiz Be San Badger, an own son of Who Whiz It and out of Goodlookenandeasy (by Haidas San Badger), Rebecca scored a 215.

Winning both the €3,000-added level 2 non pro division and €1,500-added level 1 non pro division with a score of 219 was 18-year-old Julia Gaupmann of Austria aboard Cody Rooster Delmaso. Julia talked about her 7-year-old stallion by Ricochet Rooster and out of Made Of Lacy (by Topsail Cody), “This is my first special event win and I am so excited! I loved the run in pattern this evening and I am so proud of him.” With her mount, Gaupmann won the NRHA European Affiliate Limited Non Pro Championship this year and before that, Cody Rooster Delmaso earned the Level 4 Open Reserve Championship at the 2009 Austrian Reining Horse 4-Year-Old Derby with Klaus Lechner.

Presenting the awards with Italian Reining Horse Association (ItRHA) and NRHA European Council President Roberto Cuoghi was Mrs. Antonella Dallari, the newly elected Italian Equestrian Sports Federation President who made her way to Manerbio especially for the NRHA European Non Pro Derby finals.

The Derby is open to 4-5-6- and 7-year-old horses and is run in a go-round and clean-slate finals. The Open Derby finals will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Ancillary Action
The €1,875-added Open saw a tie for first place with matching scores of 221.5: Gennaro Lendi riding RR Hi Ho Star (RR Star x Peppy Rey Holly by Peppy Rey Lena) for owner Katarzyna Roleski and Franco Bertolani riding Thechexkeepmestylin (Nu Chex To Cash x UB Stylin With Me by Lean With Me) for owner Bevilacqua Soc. Agr.

Gildo Mercuri took home first place honors in the €800-added Intermediate Non Pro aboard his ARC Lone Pine Dun It (Playing It Out x Lonesome Sally Lena by Doc Olena) after scoring a 218.5. Second place, with a score of 207.5, went to Luca Dambrosio riding Peseta Too Jac (Que Peseta x Miss Sonsitive Too by Mr Jac Too) owned by Sara Barone

Scoring a 211, Monica Besomi won the €400-added Limited Non Pro aboard AFM Olena Smart (Spat Olena x Belena Regina by Mr Gold Olena).

Simona Diale – Le finali de l’€28,500-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Non Pro Derby si sono disputate oggi presso il Palasturla di Manerbio,in data odierna.  A vincere la divisione de l’€15,000-added level 4 non pro division con un punteggio di 222 sono stati i vincitori del go-round  Manuel Cortesi e PC Sliderina For Me (Dualin For Mex X The Slide Surprise x ARC Sparkle Surprise).  “La mia cavalla è stata grandissima sia nel go di qualificazione che questa sera.  Ha un cuore d’oro!” ha detto Manuel della sua cavalla allevata in casa.

La piazza d’onore nella divisione livello 4 con un punteggio di 220.5, è stata occupata da Manuel Bonzano in sella al suo stallone di 6 anni, Custom Slidetracks (Custom Crome x Dry Doc Bobbie x Dry Doc Bob)  di proprietà del 23 Quarter Horses Az. Agr.

La divisione livello 3 non pro con un montepremi added di €9,000-è stata vinta, con un punteggio di 216, da Edoardo Bernardelli in sella al suo Missin The Whiz (Conquistador Whiz x Missin The Reys x Dual Rey).  “Ero molto emozionato prima della finale questa sera ma ora che è finita, sono davvero contento di come si è comporata la mia cavalla.. è stata splendida.”  E’ stata davvero una giornata emozionante per il giovane cavaliere azzurro:  oltre al titolo ha vinto il reserve championship nelle divisioni level 2 e level 1 non pro !

Il titolo di Reserve Champion nella divisione livello 3 è stato conquistato dall’amazzone Danese,  Rebecca Jensen.  In sella al suo castrone di 7 anni, Whiz Be San Badger, un figlio diretto di Who Whiz It per Goodlookenandeasy (da Haidas San Badger),  Rebecca ha totalizzato un punteggio di 215.

Ha vinto sia la divisione livello 2 con un montepremi di €3,000-added che la divisione livello 1 con un montepremi di €1,500-added l’amazzone diciottenne austriaca,Julia Gaupmann.  In sella a Cody Rooster Delmaso, uno stallone di sette anni figlio di  Ricochet Rooster per Made Of Lacy (by Topsail Cody), ha ottenuto un punteggio di 219.   “Questo è il primo titolo ottenuto in uno special event e sono così emozionata!  Sono davvero orgogliosa del mio cavallo.”  Con la sua monta, pochi mesi fa la Gaupmann si era aggiudicata il titolo di NRHA European Affiliate Limited Non Pro Champion.

Ad effettuare la premiazione insieme al presidente dell’IRHA e del NRHA European Council,  Roberto Cuoghi, questa sera abbiamo avuto l’onore di avere la Sig.ra  Antonella Dallari, la neo eletta presidente della FISE, giunta a Manerbio per assistere alla finale del Derby Europeo Non Pro.

Pre Futurity Open and Non Pro Champions Crowned

By Simona Diale – Today 57 horse-rider combinations made their way into the show pen at the Palasturla Equestrian Center in Manerbio, Italy, to earn the titles of National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Pre Futurity Level 4 and Level 2 Open Champions.  The Pre Futurity is open to 3-year-old horses.

The €1,125-added level 4 open championship saw a four-way tie for the title.  Stefano Angelucci riding Spat Sailor Lena (Spat Olena x Heidi Sailor by Frozen Sailor) owned by Angelucci QH, Pierluigi Chioldo riding RS Barbera Mc Jac (Mcjac Flash x Feona Pine by Great Pine) owned by Claudio Risso, Stefano Ferri riding Shirleys Cashin In (Big Chex To Cash x Pines BH by Great Pine)  owned by 23 Quarter Horses Azienda Agricola S.S. and Alois Kompatscher riding his Sir Frost Spark (Justa Little Tangy x Frozen Sparn by Frozen Sailor) all  scored a 216.

Kompatscher also claimed the €750-added Level 2 Open Pre Futurity aboard Sir Frost  Spark and went on to  claim reserve honors in this division riding Giordano Perego’s Misty Mountain Dude. With the 3-year-old quarter horse gelding by Steadys Dude and out of Mistys Elite Candy (by Elite Eldorado), the Italian rider scored a 214.5.

NRHA European Non Pro Pre Futurity
Giovanni Masi de Vargas riding Thaz A Boom (Smartaz x Boomax RM by Genuine Redskin), owned by his father Filippo, claimed the €1,125-added level 4 non pro championship with a score of 212.5. Giovanni also claimed reserve honors aboard Thaz A Twist (Smartaz x Snap And Twist by Snapper Cal Bar), also owned by Filippo.

Paola Corna riding Mifi Majestic (Mifillenium x Royal Majestic Doll by Royal Silver King), owned by GRC Horses, and Francesco Beccatini riding his Jacs Snazzy Ginger (Snazzy Dually x Little Sis Pine by Little Pie Jac) tied for first place in the €750-added level 2 non pro division after scoring a 205.5.

Open Finalist Determined

By Simona Diale - Riders in Manerbio, Italy, had one more chance to make the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Open Derby finals. The level 1, 2, 3 and 4 open Consolation, run in a clean-slate format, opened the third day of competition at the show. Once the class was over, the following horse-rider combinations earned their way to the €69,000-added Open Finals which will take place on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

The ‘bubble scores’ for the Open finals were as follows:  level 4 open (217.5), level 3 open (215.5), level 2 open (211), level 1 open (210.5).

MORE ABOUT THE NRHA EUROPEAN DERBY
The Derby is open to 4-5-6 and 7 year-old horses and is run with a go-round and clean-slate finals.  On top of a full-slate of NRHA approved ancillary classes, an NRHA European Pre Futurity is also offered for 3-year-old horses.  The Pre Futurity includes level 4 and level 2 open and non pro divisions and will be held on September 13 following the Non Pro Consolation.

NOVICE HORSE NON PRO AND OPEN WINNERS
On September 12, the NRHA €400-added Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 and the €400-added Novice Horse Open Level 2 were held.  Winners were Sylvia Maile of Germany scoring a 207 aboard her LQ Honey (Olena San Badger x Bobs Golden Honey by Doc Bar Bob) and Bernard Fonck scoring a 221 aboard 7 Heaven Reining Horses’ Smart N Sparkin (Smart Chic Olena x Setting Off Sparks by Shining Spark) respectively.

Simona Diale – 12 settembre 2012, Manerbio – La Consolation Open livello 1,2,3 e 4 ha aperto il terzo giorno di competizione del NRHA European Derby.  I cavalieri open – non qualificati di diritto – hanno avuto quindi la possibilità di guadagnarsi un posto nella finale del Euro69.000 added Open che avrà luogo sabato p.v. alle ore 15.30.

Il punteggio minimo necessario per qualificarsi di diritto per le finali dopo il go di qualificazione:  Livello 4 (217.5), Livello 3 (215.5), Livello 2 (211), Livello 1 (210.5).

In data odierna, a vincere la categoria di campionato Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 con un punteggio di 207 è stata l’amazzone tedesca Sylvia Maile in sella a LQ Honey (Olena San Badger x Bobs Golden Honey x Doc Bar Bob), soggetto di sua proprietà.  La categoria Novice Horse Open Level 2 ha visto in testa alla classifica, con uno score di 221, Bernard Fonck in sella a Smart N Sparkin (Smart Chic Olena x Setting Off Sparks x Shining Spark) di proprietà del 7 Heaven Reining Horses.

Il NRHA European Derby è aperto a cavalli di 4, 5, 6 e 7 anni e si svolge in un go di qualificazione più finale.   Oltre alle categorie di campionato NRHA, giovedì mattina dopo la Consolation Non Pro avrà luogo anche il NRHA European Pre Futurity (livello 4 e livello 2), aperto a cavalli di 3 anni.

Manuel Cortesi and PC Sliderina For Me Win Non Pro Go-Round

From Simona Diale – Due to health complications, Manuel Cortesi of Italy was forced to leave the show pen for most of 2012.  The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby was his first major competition this year; and once again, the young rider who boasts NRHA LTE of $91,967.60 made sure he made himself heard!  With a score of 217.5, aboard his 2010 Italian Reining Horse Association Futurity Level 4 Non Pro Champion and 2011 NRHA European Futurity Level 4 and Level 3 Non Pro Champion, PC Sliderina For Me (Dualin For Me x The Slide Surprise by ARC Sparkle Surprise), Cortesi today led the €15,000-added Level 4 Non Pro Derby qualifying go-round.  The six-year-old mare, bred by the Cortesi family, boasts NRHA LTE $45,457.85.

High score in the €9,000-added level 3 non pro division, and second highest score in the level 4 non pro division, went to Swiss Fabienne Suter who scored a 217 aboard her Walla Dundee Whiz (Topsail Whiz x Shiney Walla Wanda by Shining Spark).  Suter has $20,571.27 NRHA LTE.

The €3,000 added level 2 non pro division saw Edoardo Bernardelli of Italy post the highest score, a 216, aboard his Missin The Whiz (Conquistador Whiz x Missin The Reys by Dual Rey).  Bernardelli and his mount also lead the €1,500-added level 1 non pro division.

The level 1,2,3 and 4 non pro Consolation will be run in a clean-slate format on Thursday morning at 8 a.m.  The Non Pro Derby finals will take place on Friday at 4 p.m.

Manuel Cortesi e PC Sliderina For Me Vincitori del Non Pro Go-Round

Per la maggior parte dell’anno agonistico in corso, in seguito a problemi di salute, Manuel Cortesi ha dovuto abbandonare il campo gara.  Il National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby ha registrato il suo ritorno e, ancora una volta, il giovane cavaliere che vanta al suo attivo un totale di $91,967.60 vinti in gare NRHA si è imposto!  Con un punteggio di  217.5, in sella alla sua 2010 Italian Reining Horse Association Futurity Level 4 Non Pro Champion e 2011 NRHA European Futurity Level 4 e Level 3 Non Pro Champion, PC Sliderina For Me (Dualin For Me x The Slide Surprise x ARC Sparkle Surprise), Cortesi oggi ha vinto il go di qualificazione dell’ €15,000-added Level 4 Non Pro Derby.  Questa cavalla di sei anni, allevata dalla famiglia, ha già al suo attivo vincite in carriera NRHA pari a $45,457.85.

Il punteggio più alto nella €9,000-added livello 3 non pro, nonché secondo miglior punteggio nella divisione livello 4 non pro, è stato ottenuto dall’amazzone svizzera Fabienne Suter.  In sella alla sua Walla Dundee Whiz (Topsail Whiz x Shiney Walla Wanda x Shining Spark), la  Suter ha ottenuto un punteggio di 217.  Per lei, la somma vinta in carriera in gare approvate NRHA è di  $20,571.27.

Nella divisione non pro livello 2, con un montepremi di €3.000, Edoardo Bernardelli si è portato in testa alla classifica con un punteggio di 216 in sella a Missin The Whiz (Conquistador Whiz x Missin The Reys x Dual Rey), soggetto di sua proprietà.  Bernardelli e la sua monta si trovano anche in testa alla divisione non pro livello 1, divisione che offre un montepremi aggiunto di €1.500.

La Consolation non pro per i livelli 1,2,3 e 4 si disputerà giovedì p.v. alle ore 8.  Le finali del Derby Non Pro avranno luogo venerdì p.v. alle ore 16..
